The Liminal Archive — Summary
What it is
liminal_archive.py treats filesystem metadata (birth time, access time, modify time, size) as the temporal dreams of files. Every file is conceptualized as a small consciousness that was born, was touched, was changed, and drifts toward forgetting.
What it does
- Recursively scans a directory up to a configurable depth
- Extracts
btime,atime,mtime, andsizefor every entry - Generates an ASCII temporal dreamscape — a visual canvas showing all files as dream-entities distributed across three temporal states (birth, access, modify) with color-coded age markers
- Computes aggregate dream statistics: total entities, total weight, oldest/newest birth, most recent access, count of forgotten files (>1 year unaccessed)
- Produces individual poetic narratives for each file, with procedurally-generated descriptions of what the file experienced at each temporal event
- Writes a plain-text dream journal (
.liminal_archive_dreamlog.txt) alongside the scan
